Example 1:
Assign 618.1, Uterine prolapse, and 677, Late effect of complication of pregnancy.
 
Example 2:
Assign 666.24, Delayed and secondary postpartum hemorrhage, postpartum condition or complication.
 
Example 3:
Assign 633.1, Tubal pregnancy; 639.0, Genital tract and pelvic infection; and 041.10, Staphylococcus infection, unspecified.
 
Example 4:
Assign 639.1, Delayed or excessive hemorrhage; complications following abortion and ectopic and molar pregnancies.
 
Example 5:
Assign 642.62, Eclampsia, delivered, with mention of postpartum complication; and V27.0, Single liveborn.
 
Example 6:
Assign 648.03, Other current conditions in mother classifiable elsewhere, but complicating pregnancy, childbirth, or the puerperium; antepartum condition or complication, diabetes mellitus. The instructions for this code range also direct the coder to use additional code(s) to identify the condition. Therefore, also assign 250.03, Diabetes mellitus without mention of complication, uncontrolled Type I, to identify the patient's uncontrolled diabetes.
 
Example 7:
The correct codes are 651.01, Twin pregnancy, delivered, with or without mention of antepartum condition; 654.21, Previous Cesarean delivery, delivered, with or without mention of antepartum condition; 664.11, Second-degree perineal laceration, delivered, with or without mention of antepartum condition; and V27.2, Twins, both liveborn, outcome of delivery.
 
Example 8:
Assign 672.04, Pyrexia of unknown origin during the puerperium.
 
Example 9:
The correct code is 644.13, Other threatened labor, antepartum condition or complication.
 
Example 10:
Assign 643.13, Hyperemesis gravidarum with metabolic disturbance, antepartum condition or complication.
